The Blue Ridge Summit Free Library is pleased to welcome artist and author Kathleen Renninger to an afternoon of book signing and display of her artwork. This event will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 pm. at the Blue Ridge Summit Free Library, located at 13676 Monterey Lane, Blue Ridge Summit PA. You are invited to stop by for this meet and greet session, and for refreshments in our Community Room.
Kathleen will be debuting her first book of art and poetry with her just- published Pages From A Nature Lover’s Diary. Kathleen Ann Renninger is an artist and graphic-designer. She has lived with her equally nature-loving husband, Donald, near Blue Ridge Summit PA for over thirty-five years. Her previously published works have been how-to articles for an internationally read model railroading magazine. This is her first book.
Her book actually began in the 1980’s when she purchased her first hardback sketchbook and dedicated it solely to documenting things she saw in nature. Little did she know then that, 30 years later, she would be sharing some of her observations with the world. Mediums used to render the drawings in the journals included graphite pencil, watercolor, colored pencils, watercolor markers, oil pastels, water-soluble colored pencil and chalk pastels. This colorful book contains 72 pages which are divided into twelve sections, with each section filled with colorful renderings and descriptions for each month of the year. The last page of each month is dedicated to an original poem by Kathy.
Besides her graphic-design work, Kathy has designed the official Blue Ridge Summit Free Library book mark and has painted “Train at Edgemont Maryland”, which depicts a Western Maryland Railway engine with the old red, black and white color scheme pulling freight cars. A print of this painting will be on display at the February 8th event, along with note cards and other artwork by the artist. Several of her original nature journals will also be on display.
